The holidays are here! That also means that the gift shopping has also begun!

Searching for the perfect gift has always been one of my favorite things about this time of year, so I've decided to compile a gift guide related to physical therapy! This list of items is for that loved one who is always active, is currently in physical therapy, or should be in physical therapy. Helping them to improve their physical health is a valuable gift that will positively influence them long term! Click on the titles of each object in order to see the product - I receive a small commission when you click on the link and really appreciate your support!

1. Ice Pack

A gift for the active people that always seem to get injured - this ice pack is one that I use at my practice and is loved by many patients! This two pack includes a standard rectangular one for large areas and a longer one for your neck/shoulder/knee. These stay cold for a while and can easily wrap around any body part - I typically use a clip or ACE bandage to keep it in place. If you want to gift an ice pack that can actually wrap around a knee or elbow, this is also another good option!

2. Massage Gun

Another recovery gift that can help with people who are active! The Therabody is a mini massage gun by Theragun, which can help to (temporarily) relieve muscle tension and tightness after physical activity. This is an easy tool to throw in a gym bag or backpack too!

3. Atomic Habits by James Clear

This book has been extremely popular over the past few years - and for good reason. It discusses small ways to make and stick to good habits, something that is extremely important for one's physical and mental health. There are many ways that this book relates to physical therapy, but I love how it can be empowering to the individual who feels like their physical health is in a downward spiral.

4. Fitness/Health Tracker

I've linked the WHOOP tracker for this next gift idea because of how informative it can be about someone's health habits and recovery! I've heard great things from my own active patients about this tracker, which can track exercise performance, heart rate, sleep, and recovery. Although it is an investment and requires a subscription, it could be an essential tool for athletes to optimize their performance.

5. Physical Therapy Gift Card

Most likely, many people that you know have some sort of physical ailment - however, a large chunk of those people are probably not actively seeking help with this. I can't tell you how many times I've heard "I've had this pain for months-years and it's gotten so bad recently. This is why I've decided to come to PT." Typically, people come to us when their physical pain has really affected their quality of life or limited their ability to do the things that they want to do. A lot of times though, coming to a physical therapist soon after the injury occurs can actually speed up the recovery process and reduce the duration of physical limitations! Many people just need that small push to take control of their health and address their injuries. Valor Physical Therapy is now offering gift cards that can be purchased on the phone or in person! This can be a great nudge for a loved one to start the journey towards alleviating their physical pain.

I hope you found this small guide helpful! Happy holidays!
