Why Balance Matters — Prevention, Not Just Recovery
Most people don't think about balance until after a fall. But balance training works best as prevention, not just recovery. Falls are often the result of small declines in strength, reaction time, and stability that build up over months or years, long before an actual fall happens. Waiting until after a fall to address balance means starting from a harder position, often with an injury to recover from at the same time.
The Active & Able program, offered in partnership with FreeHab, is built around catching those declines early. Regular balance training helps maintain reaction time, strengthen the muscles that keep you stable, and build confidence in everyday movement, whether that's walking on uneven ground, getting up from a chair, or navigating stairs. The goal is to keep you doing the things you love, safely, for as long as possible.
Program Includes:
- 1 session/week for 6 weeks (Fridays at 1PM)
- Licensed physical therapists instructing and monitoring participants
-Assessments and exercises to improve all aspects of balance
What you'll work toward:
This isn't just exercise, it's a long-term investment in your quality of life. Our therapists get to know you, your goals, and your lifestyle so every session is purposeful and personal.

Balance and fall prevention aren't just about strength, they're about how the nervous system, joints, and muscles work together to keep you upright, and what happens when that system is compromised by injury, surgery, medication, or age-related changes. Physical therapists are trained to evaluate those underlying factors and identify specific risks a general trainer isn't licensed to assess.
That clinical background means the program isn't just exercise, it's a personalized plan built on your movement history, current limitations, and real fall-risk factors. If something in a session raises a concern (a strength deficit, a vestibular issue, a gait abnormality) your PT can identify it and adjust your plan immediately, something outside a trainer's scope.

No. In fact, the earlier you start, the more effective balance training tends to be. Many of our patients join proactively, before any fall has occurred.
Sessions are hands-on and personalized, combining strength work, balance challenges, and real-world movement practice tailored to your current ability and goals.
How is this different from a balance class at a gym?Every session is led by a licensed physical therapist, not a general fitness instructor. That means your program is built around your specific risk factors, medical history, and movement patterns, not a one-size-fits-all routine.
How often should I attend? This varies by individual. We'll recommend a frequency based on your evaluation and adjust as you progress.
