Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization, also known as IASTM, is a technique utilized by manual therapists to manipulate soft tissue and improve tissue extensibility. A titanium tool is used against the skin in various forces, directions, and patterns based on the purpose of the treatment. At Valor Physical Therapy, IASTM can be used in conjunction with soft tissue mobilization, active/passive movement, and therapeutic exercises in order to efficiently and effectively improve movement quality and decrease pain. Valentine has been certified in IASTM techniques since 2019 and uses titanium tools (instead of the popular stainless steel tools) to provide the most hygenic and effective tissue changes with less force required.
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization is typically used for:
- chronic neck and back pain
- ligament injuries
- tendinopathies
- plantar fasciitis
- improving limited joint range of motion
- detecting soft tissue restrictions more precisely
- promoting immediate and long term effects on tissue extensibility
